Kenneth Meltzer (K.M.)

Ken Meltzer is the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s Community Spokesman, a position he has held since 1994. In that capacity, he authors the Symphony’s program notes and serves as host of the pre-concert “Behind the Notes” lecture series. Ken is active in the PSO’s outreach and education programs. He has appeared in concert with the Pittsburgh Symphony as narrator in Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,” Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” and Igor Stravinsky’s “A Soldier’s Tale.”

Ken assisted Mariss Jansons in writing the “From the Maestro” columns that appeared Sundays in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Ken is the host and producer of “A Night at the Opera,” which airs Sunday evenings on WQED-FM. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, and is a guest lecturer for the Pittsburgh Opera.

Mr. Meltzer is originally from Baltimore where for ten years he served as Opera Consultant to WBJC-FM. During that time he was co-host and producer of its “Operafest” program, which was a recipient of Baltimore Magazine’s 20th Anniversary “Best of Baltimore” Awards.
